Maharishi Smarak Inaugurated

The memorial to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Maharishi Smarak, (see July, 2012 issue for more details) was inaugurated on February 15th during the once in 12 year festival referred to as the Kumbha Mela, in Allahabad, India

This festival draws tens of millions of people during its one-month duration. The memorial to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and the Vedic knowledge that he so completely revitalized sits high on a hill on an east-facing bank overlooking the confluence of the three sacred rivers of the Vedic tradition and the main site of the Mela. Just as the Inauguration took place a very unexpected but welcome rain came to support the event and the day.

Owning Vastu

After working with Maharishi Vastu architecture for a decade, and having the good fortune to live in Vastu rentals for 12 years, I am very familiar with the experience that comes from living in Vastu—both my own and that of the others. What I was not prepared for was the quantum leap in my experience when I was finally able to build and own my own small Vastu home.

Hurricane Sandy

It all began with the groundbreaking ceremony on a fine, sunny day in early July, when the weather had cooled off and lots of friends were in town for a conference. From the first shovel of dirt, it was a truly bliss-filled experience. Then came the foundation stone laying a few short weeks later and again the same wonderful happiness on many levels of mind and body pervaded my experience. I experienced a very tangible happiness that permeated the outer environment as well as my inner reality.

Then as the house began to go up - walls and roof appeared, pipes, insulation, etc. went into the walls, the windows went in, the kitchen and bathroom took shape, the floor became something other than plywood, and throughout it all my experience was just deep happiness each time I went to the house to see the progress or cleaned up a bit after the workers on a quiet day. We pushed to get it ready by early December due to the auspicious day for the inauguration ceremony and because the winter was coming fast. The moving-in ceremony was even more powerful than the previous two ceremonies. It felt as if the liveliness of the house welled up and pushed out from every corner of the house, permeating the entire structure and everyone there.

I have lived here now for three months and each day it is a blessing to be here.

The happiness I feel is like no other I have ever experienced—deep, unshakable and contagious. I often come home to the house, walk inside and start to smile from ear to ear just reaches out and tickles me. One day, during a January thaw, I was out on my west porch cleaning a window from the outside and walked back around the corner to the north side of the house and started laughing. The bliss just tickled me to the extent that I had to laugh out loud.

I find my sleep is considerably better, and my meditations are deeper and clearer than they have ever been. Most of all, that pervading bliss brings a contentment and peace and richness to daily life that is like nothing I have ever experienced.

Hurricane Sandy

My wish is that everyone will be able to have this experience in their lives also, it is simply incomparable and worth stretching a bit to get it!
