Maharishi Vastu in Japan
Japan has three especially striking Maharishi Vastu buildings. Two are private homes built in Ryugasaki, northeast of Tokyo and the other is the national headquarters for the Transcendental Meditation organization.
The first home was built in 2008.
From the extensive Facebook photo album we have created on these three structures, you can see how they have combined a typical Japanese-style home of approximately 153 sm (1640 sf) with the benefits of Maharishi Vastu architecture. It has a ceramic roof, Japanese earthen walls, and beautiful wood throughout. The use of natural, local materials is integral, and ideal in Maharishi Vastu homes. Some of the traditional features include a Japanese style tearoom with tatami floor ,fusuma screens, and shoji doors.
You also see how sunlight floods the entryway all the way to the Brahmasthan and beyond on both levels. This brings the nourishing effects of early morning sun into much of the house. The Vastu gate is a solid stone structure at its base with wood posts and pickets on top; a very substantial fence such as this is ideal. And even on a small lot such as this, it can be accomplished.
The owner of the house, Tatsuhiko Nagai, has related his experience of living in the house “I am feeling bliss when coming into my Vastu home. On fine days the comfortable sunlight enters into the Brahmasthan hall through the big window above the entrance in the morning. I call the hall “Here Comes the Sun” hall, because I am a big fan of the Beatles’ songs. I often welcome my guests in a Japanese style tearoom. In this house, I feel hopeful and sacred energy. I can experience serenity, creativity, wisdom and silence, all at the same time. Also I feel supported by nature. This home is not only a healthy building but also helps me to think and contribute to our world and environment in a positive way.
“Since visiting Fairfield Iowa, USA in 2008, I resolved to build a Vastu community here for creating a better and peaceful world. The third Vastu home has just been completed this November. We call our village TATSUNOKO in honor of the mountain nearby.”
This most recently completed home was finished this fall. It is a beautiful Vastu home with pure white plaster on the exterior, a chimney made of coral and a golden Kalash on a stone roof.
Like the first home, it features lovely wood interiors, traditional Japanese features, and an abundance of natural light on both levels.
The following report came from those attending the Inauguration ceremony:
“‘Beautiful!’, everyone shouted at the same time on the auspicious inauguration day, November 28, 2014. When we entered into the Vastu house, we felt its very soft and peaceful atmosphere, filled with the energy of harmony brought by Vastu knowledge. When we experience a true Vastu home, we can’t help feeling that connecting with the cosmic is both natural and comfortable.
“The homeowner said, ‘Nature’s support built this beautiful Vastu architecture. What is nature’s support? Good, ancient Indian Vastu knowledge, good Vastu consultant, good builder and craftsmanship, good designer, good neighbors, and good Vastu coordinator. Everything worked so well in harmony with natural support.”
Because of unusual circumstances, Mr. Yanaka and his family will move into the house in the spring of this year. He is eager to welcome visitors to tour his house and is looking forward to experiencing the benefits of living in Vastu.
National headquarters:
VEDA NO MORI (forest of veda) is the national headquarters of the Transcendental Meditation organization and called the Maharishi Institute of Total Education. It is located in Nasu, approximately one and a half hours north of Tokyo. It is not only an organizational headquarters but offers many residential courses to those already practicing the TM® technique as well as the opportunity to learn TM in this serene setting. These courses go deeply into the various aspects of the Vedic knowledge as revived and restored by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi over a 50-year period. Courses cover topics ranging from deepening of meditation experience to Ayurvedic lifestyle and cooking to Vedic astrology. It also serves as a clinic for Maharishi Ayurveda treatments and consultations.
All this and so much more are offered in this magnificent timber frame building of 56 guest rooms and eight conference/classrooms.
It is the largest wood structure in all of Japan, 4800 sm (51,500 sf), and has a striking copper roof, common to temples and shrines in Japan. It is a wonderful example of the use of natural materials which is a key element in Maharishi Vastu construction.
