Brahmasthan, the point of wholeness

Following the principles of right orientation, placement, measurement and proportion, the Brahmasthan is one of the key and the most identifiable features of a Maharishi Vastu structure. It is the structure’s center point, the seat of wholeness, of totality of Natural Law—just as structures in nature have a center point- galaxies, flowers, atom—so does a Maharishi Vastu home or community or city.

From here the structure of the city, town or building is carefully designed: its roads, amenities and functions, as well as the rooms, walls, doors, etc. in an individual structure.

In larger homes and buildings you often find the Brahmasthan beautifully designed with a well-lit atrium with skylights or windowed cupola in the roof over the Brahmasthan area.

Even the geographic center of a country has special significance in Vedic architecture and planning and is called the country’s Brahmasthan.

Traditionally, this would be the ideal and most auspicious place to administer the country in the most effective and nourishing way for all. It is also significant as the starting point for the grid when country planning is done. In many countries, the geographical center point is not currently a populated area, as if having been kept quiet by Nature. Therefore it is quite possible and practical to think of creating a center of ideal administration based on the silent, efficient administration of natural law. Establishing a proper site for national administration is something that any country would find highly beneficial to its success and the well-being of its citizens. And the implementation of Maharishi Vedic architecture will then lead naturally to the implementation of other life-supporting technologies such as Vedic organic food production, Vedic health practices and peace creating groups to maintain the coherence and organizing principle for continued implementation.

This principle is currently being implemented privately at the Brahmasthan of India, where a group of peace creating experts is being established to create a beneficial influence for India and the world. All are housed in Maharishi Vastu buildings, of course!

Heavenly Mtn. Begins Expansion

In the mid 1990’s the concept of a Maharishi Vastu peace community nestled into the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of northwest North Carolina was born. Named “Heavenly Mountain”, it would be the first community of Maharishi Vastu homes in the world. The thousands of acres of forested land that was purchased included sites for 2 residential campuses/retreats- one for single men and one for single women who wanted to devote their time and attention to meditation in large groups, thereby creating a strong influence of harmony ,coherence and peace for the entire country. Both of these campuses were completed by 1999. From 1996 to 2005 more than 26 private family homes, several multifamily buildings and 2 community buildings were built according to the principles of Maharishi Vedic architecture as people became attracted by the proximity of these coherence creating groups along with the moderate climate and beauty of the area. For those of you unfamiliar with this area, Boone and the adjacent towns are considered some of the most scenic regions in the country. The area has an abundance of recreational and cultural activities that showcase its strong heritage as well as its natural beauty.

Heavenly Mtn Home

Heavenly Mtn View

Because the original developers decided not to continue with the expansion of the development the land was re-purchased by the banks. Just this past year, the existing homeowners association came together and decided to revitalize the project for further expansion. There are currently 26 lots, ranging in size from .50 – 4.5 acres, for sale as well as several existing MVA homes. Many of the existing homes are in the 4000-6000 SF range but in response to current market demand, the homeowners’ association has decided to relax the minimum home size to 1200 SF on designated lots and 1500-2000 SF on all other land. For further details on lot sales or the existing homes that are currently offered please contact: Margo Lenmark at lenmark@juno.com. In our next issue we will give more details of the upcoming seminar on Maharishi Vedic architecture to be made available  later in the spring through Maharishi University of Management’s new on line distance education program.
